Mario Gauci was born on the 26th November 1962. He was educated at St Monica School, The Archbishop's Seminary and The Chartered Institute of Bankers Malta Centre. He obtained the A.C.I B. Diploma in 1994. He joined Mid-Med Bank Ltd (now HSBC Bank Malta plc ) in 1981 and today works as a Senior Corporate Banking Manager. He has attended various courses both locally and abroad relating mainly to Management and Banking.
In 1994 he contested the Local Council Elections as a candidate with the Nationalist Party. He was elected and subsequently appointed as the first Mayor of Gharghur, a post that he still occupies. Since then he has contested successfully the Local Council Elections held in 1998, 2001, 2004 and 2007, always obtaining the highest number of first count votes.
During his term of office the Gharghur Local Council has established itself as one of the foremost Local Councils on the island. Practically, all the roads in the village of Gharghur have been resurfaced, utility services reinforced and/or extended while a notable improvement in the general environment of the village has been registered. Three recreational areas, the most notable Gnien il-Paci, have been developed/renovated. Other major initiatives include the development of a Community hall and a new Administrative office for the Local Council, various restoration works, including the locality's landmark - Semaphore Tower, the re-building of rubble walls, the installation of decorative lanterns and other street furniture, the publication of books on the history of Gharghur, the development of new public library etc. He has served on various committees and currently sits on the Majjistral Action Group and is Deputy Chairman of the Northern Committee for the Local Enforcement.
He is married to Anna Maria Gauci and they have two children, Christine Marie and James Mario.
Mark Azzopardi-Deputy Mayor
Mark Azzopardi was born on the 4th July 1981. He was educated at the Gharghur Primary School, the M.A. Vassalli Junior Lyceum, G.F.Abela Junior College and finished his studies at the University of Malta from where he obtained the B.Ed (Hons) degree. He works as a teacher. He is single. In March 2001 he contested the Local Councils Elections as a candidate with the Nationalist Party. He was elected and appointed as Deputy Mayor of the Gharghur Local Council. He was directly responsible for Roads, Infrastructure, Traffic Management, Historical Heritage, Public Relations, and e-Government. In June 2004 he contested the Local Councils elections for the second time as a candidate with the Nationalist Party and was re-elected and appointed as Deputy Mayor. He also contested the 2007 elections and was reconfirmed as Deputy Mayor. Apart from helping the Mayor in managing the Council's operations he is directly responsible for Roads, Infrastructure, Youths and Sports, Public Relations, European Union Programs, and e-Government. He chairs the Sub-Committee for Social Activities Youths and Sports,and is in charge of the children's Kids Club.
Pio Fenech-Councillor Pio Fenech was born on the 23rd May 1955. He was educated at the Naxxar Primary School, afterwards proceeding to the Sir Temi Zammit Technical Institute in Naxxar. Furthering his studies, he qualified for the Certificate in Management from the University of Malta. In March 2007, he contested the Local Council Elections as a candidate on behalf of the Nationalist Party, being elected for the first time. His duties include Traffic Management, Public Order and Local Enforcement, Social Services and Family Affairs, Education , Public Library, Cultural Activities, Self-Employed and Relations with N.G.O.'s in the locality of Gharghur. Pio is married to Rita and they have four children, Aimee, Astrid, Aaron and Ambrose.
Michael Mifsud-Councillor Michael Mifsud was born on the 19th August 1970. He was educated at the Gharghur Primary School, Liceo Vassalli, Grognet Institute Naxxar and Tal-Qroqq University. He joined the Corinthia Group Projects Division (now QPM) in 1992 and is now a Projects Executive involved on major capital projects both locally and overseas. He contested his first Local Council election as a candidate of the Malta Labour Party in June 2004 and was elected.He was elected again in the year 2007. He is directly responsible for Historical Heritage, Environment, Services, Public Transport and Bye Laws.He is married to Juliet Mifsud Orlando and they have three children, Gregory, Gabriella & Gerald.
Alfred Muscat-Councillor Alfred Muscat was born on the 27th October 1947. He has a secondary level of education and is retired. He is single. In June 1994 he contested the Local Councils Elections as an Independent Candidate and was elected. In 1997 he contested again as an Independent Candidate but was not elected. In June 2004 he contested as a candidate with the Malta Labour Party and was elected. He was also elected in the year 2007. He is directly responsible for Elderly and Persons with Disability, Public Cleanliness, Waste Management, Non Urban areas, Public Gardens, Clean Up Campaigns and Public Convenience.
