Collection of Bulky Refuse:- This service is provided once weekly (usually every Thursday from 7.30 a.m.). Residents are kindly requested to report items for collection by phoning the Council on 2141 4111 / 2741 4111 / 7941 4111 or my sending an email on gharghur.lc@gov.mt

Collection of Household Waste:- This service is provided daily from Monday to Saturday and on all Public Holidays falling on the said days. Collection starts at approximately 8.00a.m. Residents are requested not to take out their garbage earlier than 7.30a.m. and to keep all garbage bags for collection next to their residence.

Collection of Recyclable Waste:- This service is provided every Tuesday. Collection starts at approximately 8.00a.m. Residents are requested not to take out their garbage earlier than 7.30a.m. and to keep all garbage bags for collection next to their residence.

Cleaning of roads:- All roads within the Xwieki Housing Estate are cleaned by means of a mechanical sweeper at least once a week usually on Friday morning. Residents are kindly requested not to leave any vehicles parked in the said roads whilst the service is being provided. Manual sweeping is provided daily and all roads within our locality are cleaned at least once a week. Grass cutting is provided on a periodical basis and as required.

Settlement of GO Bills:- Bills can be settled at the Local Council's Office every Wednesday and Thursday between 0830 and 1200. We would appreciate if exact amount is tendered.

Payment of Police & Local Warden's Contraventions:- Payments are accepted at the Local Council's Office daily during office hours.

Payment of Rents on Government property:- Payments are accepted at the Local Council’s Office daily during office hours.

Trading Licenses Payment:- Trading Licences may be renewed at the Local Council's Office. Renewal notice is to be presented upon payment.

Educational and Cultural Outings:- These visits are organised every last Thursday of the month. More details are displayed on the Council’s notice boards and from the Local Council's Office. Residents are urged to book early.

KartAnzjan:- The Local Council is responsible for the management of the KartAnzjan Card within our locality. Our elderly residents are kindly requested to route any queries to the Local Council. Applications for the replacement of mislaid KartAnzjan cards can be obtained from the Council.

Complaints/Suggestions Handling:- Residents who wish to lodge a complaint/forward a suggestion to the Local Council or to a Government Department are requested to contact the Local Council. This process involves:

  1. Registration of complaint/suggestion
  2. Verification
  3. Reference to the concerned authorities
  4. Feedback

Street Lighting:- When reporting a burnt-out lamp please note to include the 3 digit reference number placed on most lamps e.g. W013/24.

Upkeep of Roads:- The Local Council is responsible for the upkeep of all the roads within our locality. We are pleased to report that over 85% of the urban roads within our locality are classified to be in a very good state. This surely reflects the Council’s commitment in this regard.

Gnien il-Paci (Public Garden):- We invite you to visit this recreational area situated in St John Street next to the Primary School. This public garden provides a safe and relaxed environment it is well-equipped and today it is considered as one of the landmarks of our locality.

Public Lavatory:- The public lavatory is situated in St John Street and is opened daily including Sundays and Public Holidays.

Permits covering the undermentioned are issued upon application to the Local Council:-

  • Organisation of outdoor activities held in the locality
  • Placement of skips
  • Instalment of temporary mobile kiosks (during village feast or Good Friday Procession )
  • Crane and other construction machinery/equipment service in the locality

Information:- Information leaflets about the locality as well as other material of general interest are available free of charge from the Local Council's Offices.

Application Forms:- Various application forms are also available from the Local Council's Office. These include :

  • Provision of Birth Certificates.
  • Provision of Death Certificates.
  • Provision of Marriage Certificates
  • Renewal/Issue of Passport.
  • Participation in courses organised by E.T.C.
  • Declaration of commencement of new employment / termination of employment.
  • Change in address and surname for ID Cards purpose.
  • Application for refund of VAT paid on expenses connected with a wedding function
  • Application for refund of VAT on expenses connected with a funeral.
  • GO - Freephone / Telephone / Telefax / Telex forms.
  • GO - Change of billing address / application form for itemised bills.
  • Application forms for courses organised by the Department of Education.
  • Application forms for the participation in Skolasports.
  • Declaration to the Water Services Corporation for changes in the number of persons in the residence
  • Home help assistance for the elderly
  • Forms for the provision of Handyman service for the elderly
  • Application forms for the provision of Telecare service
  • Forms for the registration in the Electoral register
  • Change in address for Electoral register purposes
  • National Commission for Disabled Persons - application forms for : - Special ID card, Reserved Parking, social assistance service, disabled persons parking permit

'The Hilltop Village Four Walks in this Charming Old Village' -Author : Julian Bezzina. The book may be purchased from the Local Council's Offices during office hours. The price of this book is € 2.50. A Maltese version of the book is available.

Lapel Badges:- Lapel badges bearing the locality's Coat of Arms may be purchase for €3.50 each from the Local Council's offices during office hours.

Free internet service available from the Council's Office on the following days:

Monday to Friday
From 9.00a.m. to 12.00p.m. and from 2.00p.m. to 4.30p.m.
